Teeter, A-Frame, or Dogwalk?

UPDATE on 01/21/2011:  Comments form should be fixed now. If you were having trouble leaving a comment, it was probably because of our anti-spam thing. We’ve changed it to a more typical kind of anti-spam form, so that should help. We get a lot of spam here, so we had to do something. :)

UPDATE on 01/19/2011: Roger’s shop is almost finished! Our yard is fenced. We even have a semi-flat area for agility, though we kind of spread it all along an old driveway. :) Spring is only a couple months away, though, so he will probably work on garden stuff for me first, then an agility obstacle. I’ll take a final tally here soon and see if I can’t get him to build the thing with the most votes. :)   Anyone with course ideas for a narrow strip instead of a big square area, please share!

UPDATE ON 10/11/2010: We have moved into the new house but the yard is not yet fenced. This is a big project, and requires Roger to build several gates. Once he is done building the gates, he will be starting on agility obstacles again in his shiny new shop building. Please bear with us while we settle in here.

UPDATE ON 09/24/2010: We are moving pretty soon! Roger will need time to sort out all this stuff, but then he will be working on building new stuff! He also needs to fix my table, which was damaged in a windstorm and he may do a post on that, too.

Let’s have a vote: Which would you like to see next? I think Roger has worked quite a bit on dogwalk plans on paper. There is no guarantee that what you vote for will guide the next set of instructions, but we are curious to know which has the most demand.

I’d like to see an A frame. Not sure how to make a lightweight frame with no gap at the top. Thanks.

I think we are all grateful for whatever he wants to do but I would like to see the dogwalk next. Thanks!

I too would be grateful for any one of the obstacles mentioned:)

anything would be appreciated. leaning towards a teeter!

I would be grateful for any of the obstacle plans that Roger chooses to post. But, to place my vote – the teeter would be very useful to me since my Yorkie needs to get comfortable with the movement. Many thanks for your hard work and spirit of sharing.

I would love to see the dog walk next. But I still need the others too. So no big deal which one.

I looked forever to find a good adjustable teeter plan. I finally built one (out of wood, so it’s heavy) but it did work great. PVC would have been lighter, but I couldn’t work that out. My plan is on WikiHow:

I’m sure you’d have a better one. I’ve built all my jumps from your plans; they are great! I’ll eagerly await any agility plans from you. A million thanks!

Thanks for sharing your plan. What a spiffy teeter that is. It might be nice to have a heavy one, since it will not scare the dog with quick movement. I have a PVC one, a mini one, that I bought online and it is great but it startled my dogs at first with it moving so fast. That looks really sturdy, too, like it will not wobble when the dog is walking on it. We had a wooden one before that Roger built for us, and it was good but it fell apart after awhile, especially with all the picking up and moving it to mow the lawn!

I would like to see the dog walk. I have all small dogs so would like to scale down this piece of equipment. I will use three plastic saw horses for the “legs” with the wooden top. the top needs to come off for winter storage so will secure it to the saw horses using bolts. the top will be in three pieces the ends will be hinged with the type that has the slip pins. I have a mental image.

A-frame. Hear you can do it with two doors and hinges.

Honestly I am not greedy.

I would like to see BOTH!!

If I have to pick just one then it would be the Dog Walk

I am voting for teeter. My dog also struggles with movement, and if an obstacle makes a sound she wasn’t ready for.

Those of us with scaredy cats would love a teeter! One that can support even my 75lb one ;)

Dogwalk! I already have good plans for the others. If anyone needs them, let me know. :D

I would like to see all of the obstacles self-build instructions posted. Would prioritize as A-Frame, Teeter, Dog Walk.

I’d love to see an A-frame. My husband built me one from plywood, and it lasted two years. He sent three dogs up it at once and it broke from the weight. He is now incapacitated, so that leaves the building to me….and I’m seventy. Up to the challenge????? I am!

teeter, please. But I need it all anyway.

I have been struggling to build a sturdy teeter and I just can’t seem to figure out a good plan. I would be forever grateful for a plan that worked!

I have enjoyed your plans a great deal. My challenge has been a PVC support for the dog walk or teeter. I have built both, but am not happy with the supports. I am looking forward to seeing what you do. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your projects and your website.

Anything that you guys come up with will be great! I am a dog trainer and love the portability of your stuff. I had made hurdles and a tire jump before I found your site, but I love the ladder and the octagon hoop. I don’t know which I’ll make first! Molly has basic weave poles from a starter kit, but your adjustable ones are on the list as well. Thank you so much for all your info!

This site is just great! Thanks so much. I’m just in process of putting together an agility course for my dog friendly community and your affordable construction plans are just what I hoped to find. How very generous of you to share them!
Best wishes,
Lesley of Orcas Is.

I’m glad to hear you are finding them useful! We are still setting into the new house but hope to do new plans for a new obstacle in a few months. :)

Excited about finding your site!!!
Want to see your ideas for A-frame and dog walk. My Af is very leery about getting on the walk portion so looking for new ideas there.
Thanks for your great plans!

Roger is hoping to get to those obstacles later this year, probably in the summer or fall. :) He is working on his cars, and he has a raised bed garden to build for me. :)

Have you tried the ideas of using very boards on the ground at first, or securing a board to a ladder obstacle? I did boards on the ground before working up to the teeter and that worked pretty well for my two, so I thought I’d mention it just in case!

Here’s an idea: How about a contact trainer? Those of us without the room (or not wanting to move big stuff to mow around) could still use that to teach the contacts.
