Hi Fred,

The point of the ladder is to teach your dog to make note of where they are putting their back feet. That is all. The ladder is not going to teach your dog to walk certain size steps.

Many dogs have no clue that they can control where they put their back feet and that is what this obstacle is for.

My dogs are more confident on the teeter having gone over this obstacle many times, in spite of the fact that they often skip a rung or two (or three) here and there.

I hope this answers your question. If not, please post again! :)

Roger,

I train with an 80# dobe bitch that is 26 inches at the withers. Is the distance between rungs critical for certain dogs or does it not matter. I am curious given a specific distance between rungs would not cause the dog to stutter step on the contact obsticles?

Great equipment. I am already laying out plans to start building.

Regards,

Hi Bill, aside from the top rails, the measurements I presented are exactly the ones I used to build ours--I wonder if we got slightly different connectors with different glue depths? If I build another I will definitely make careful notes and see if that's the case.

Thanks for your feedback!

I am working my second project ladder with sides. The center rung spacing dose not work out. If you change the 3-3/16 sides to 4 the rung spacing will be eaqual. Also the 38-3/8 will also work. Instructions and photos are great , make the project doable for the novice. thank you for the effort.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Bill may have used a different type or brand of connector. See comment below.
